Your Local 96 Negotiating Committee has reached a tentative agreement with Washington Gas on COVID-19 health and safety protections and a one-year extension of our contract that provides security in very uncertain times.
Under the agreement, our wage increases are retroactive to March 9—twelve weeks earlier than usual.
The agreement includes COVID-19 protections like PPE, paid leave for employees who have to self-quarantine, and the right to refuse to work in proximity to co-workers or the public if you have not been issued the proper PPE.
We won these gains because of the unity and participation of Local 96 members and the Contract Action Team. Together, we have achieved a new beginning and built a strong foundation for next year’s contract negotiations.
More details are coming soon. Every member will receive a complete copy of the agreement before you vote on the contract.
The contract ratification vote will be done online through a secure system that has been used in other Teamster contract votes.
The Executive Board recommends approval of the agreement.
