This morning, Washington Gas management reneged on their promise to give us proposals and negotiate today on urgent COVID-19 health and safety issues.
We met with management on Wednesday and proposed an agreement that would cover:
-
Hazard Pay for the dangerous work we are doing in this crisis
-
Personal Protective Equipment to protect our health and safety
-
Informing Employees and Local 96 when members may have been exposed to COVID-19
- Additional Paid Leave for workers sick or quarantined because of COVID-19
Many other companies reached agreements on these issues weeks ago.
We made it clear to management that members’ concerns about COVID-19 urgently need to be addressed. Management’s response was to cancel today’s negotiations and put us off until next Tuesday.
We cannot afford to wait for management to decide that the health and safety of workers and the public deserve their attention. Our united action is needed now.
